RARE U.S. Contract STEVENS M77E Slide Action C&R Slide Action RIOT Shotgun
VIETNAM WAR Era U.S. Marked Military COMBAT SHOTGUN
Description: RARE U.S. Contract STEVENS M77E Slide Action C&R Slide Action RIOT Shotgun VIETNAM WAR Era U.S. Marked Military COMBAT SHOTGUN Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R U.S. Contract Stevens Model 77E Hammerless Slide Action Shotgun, manufactured circa the 1960s after being introduced in 1954 by the Savage Arms Corporation in Westfield, Massachusetts. This gun was manufactured under contract for the U.S. Government and was the most widely used combat shotgun during the Vietnam War. In about 1946, all of Savage / Stevens / Springfield manufacturing was moved to the Chicopee Falls location. Then, in September of 1961, the company moved all operations to Westfield, Massachusetts. Originally it was produced during the mid-1960’s by the Savage Arms company under contract from the U.S. Department of Defense. The Department of Defense sought an affordable and reliable gun to supply the armed and police forces of South Vietnam during the early stages of the Vietnam War. Due to a rapid escalation of the conflict, a significant number of Savage 77E riot and trench guns were also purchased by the U.S. Department of Defense for issue to the U.S. Army and Marine corps, intended for the jungles of Vietnam. The original procurement of this gun was for the relatively small of stature Vietnamese soldiers. So, most Savage 77E military shotguns were equipped with shorter than normal stocks and rubber recoil-reducing buttpads. These shorter stocks subsequently caused numerous complaints from U.S. soldiers. The overall condition is very good. Some original finish is present on low trafficked areas. Excellent action. The bore is shiny bright and smooth. A thin crack is on the slide. Solid buttstock with average handling wear. Markings are discernable. Own the original!
