Description:
Here we have the Grail of Scott shotguns; a 16 gauge Premier grade built in the 1900-1910 era on the post-1897 Rogers bar action sidelock design with Southgate ejectors. 78 Shaftesbury Avenue pre-1913 barrel address, 27" Special Steel 'A' barrels with double ivory beads, choked Cylinder in the right and Modified in the left(.030). These are original as right tube has no choke lstamping ahead of flats. Bores are both .667 and perfect, Proofed for 1 ounce loads, and 2 3/4" chambers. Typical over the top Scott Premier full coverage game scene engraving with 15 dogs and birds, scroll and relief carved balls on frame, POW grip with an invisible wood extension and heel & toe plates by Dennis Earl Smith in Oregon, 14 5/8" LOP from front trigger, 1 3/4" drop at comb, 2 3/4" drop at heel, 3/8" cast off, weight is 5 lbs. 15 ozs. I have collected Scott shotguns for 45 years and this is only the second bar action ejector Premier 16 gauge I've seen. Imperial Premiers are way easier to find than this gun. W.W.Greener stated in 1910 that only 1% of English guns then produced were built in 16 bore. There are more 20 bore and 28 bore vintage English doubles available than 16's. I've used it as my quail gun for the last 20 years, but I'm thinning the herd.
SALE PENDING! Thanks, Bill.
