Description:
Weatherby (Nikko) Olympian Skeet - 20 Gauge - Used; Excellent Condition - Vintage Japanese O/U
Weatherby Olympian – Vintage Japanese Craftsmanship – 20 Gauge Over/Under
For sale is a Weatherby (Nikko) Olympian Skeet over/under double-barrel shotgun, chambered in 20 Gauge (2 3/4" and 3" shells). This shotgun is in excellent used condition and represents a high-end, vintage O/U produced in Japan by Nikko for Weatherby during the 1970s and early 1980s (manufactured from 1977 to 1981). Highly regarded for its craftsmanship, the Olympian is a beautiful example of Japanese shotgun manufacturing at its finest. Serial Number: R001728.
The Olympian features 26-inch chrome-moly steel barrels with a ventilated rib, a brass bead front sight, and rib checkering for glare reduction. Both top and bottom barrels are marked "Skeet" – fixed skeet chokes, perfect for skeet shooting and close-range upland hunting. The shotgun features jeweled monobloc and ejectors, floral scroll engraving on the boxlock action, a single selective trigger, and automatic ejectors. The stock is select checkered walnut with a rosewood-capped pistol grip (featuring a white diamond inlay and white spacer), a finger groove forend, a fluted straight comb, and a brown vent rubber Weatherby recoil pad.

Weatherby Olympian Features – Vintage Japanese Craftsmanship
- Nikko of Japan Quality: Produced by Nikko in Japan, the Olympian is highly regarded for its craftsmanship, fit, and finish. Japanese O/Us from this era are known for excellent quality-to-price ratios.
- Floral Scroll Engraving: Beautifully executed floral scroll engraving on the boxlock action – classic, elegant, and well-preserved (98% metal finish retained).
- Jeweled Monobloc & Ejectors: Jeweling (engine turning) adds a premium touch to the internal components and ejectors.
- Single Selective Trigger: Allows the shooter to select which barrel fires first (typically under/over) – standard on high-end O/Us.
- Automatic Ejectors: Eject spent shells when the action is opened – speeds up reloading on the skeet field.
- Fixed Skeet Chokes: Ideal for skeet shooting and close-range upland hunting – delivers consistent, wide patterns for fast-moving targets.
- Select Walnut Stock: High-grade walnut with sharp checkering, rosewood grip cap with white diamond inlay, and finger groove forend – classic styling.
- Weatherby Recoil Pad: Factory brown vent rubber pad – still supple, shows light edge wear.
Condition Details – Excellent Retained Example
- Overall Metal Finish: Approximately 98% retained – scattered light handling marks and faint operational wear. Markings are clear. Screwheads show light use with strong slots.
- Bores: Bright – no erosion, clean, and ready to shoot.
- Mechanical Function: Action functions correctly including ejectors. Action locks up tight with no play. Single selective trigger works properly. (We have not fired this shotgun – thorough cleaning may be necessary.)
- Foregrip: Bottom left of foregrip has some slight damage – cosmetic only, does not affect function.
- Stock – Dispersed Light Compressions: Most noticeable on the belly. Small scuff on left side of wrist with a few lighter marks on right. Small indentation on right side of stock towards the buttpad from being dropped. Tiny nick at front of forearm on left. No chips or cracks.
- Checkering: Sharp and well-defined.
- Recoil Pad: Light wear around the edge – pad is still supple.
- Rib Checkering: Intact – reduces glare on the skeet field.
- Brass Bead Sight: Present and secure.

The Weatherby Olympian Legacy (1977-1981)
- Weatherby Shotgun History: While Weatherby has long been synonymous with top-quality centerfire rifles, the Olympian represents one of the fine shotguns produced under the Weatherby name.
- Short Production Run: Manufactured from 1977 to 1981 – a relatively short run, making the Olympian less common than other vintage O/U shotguns.
- Nikko's Reputation: Nikko produced high-quality shotguns for several brands during this era. Their work on the Olympian is particularly well-regarded.
- Ideal for Skeet & Upland Hunting: 26" barrels with fixed skeet chokes – perfect for skeet shooting, quail, grouse, woodcock, and other close-range upland birds.
- Collector Appeal: The Olympian is a highly collectible vintage shotgun, especially in this condition with 98% metal finish retention and bright bores.
