Westley Richards 12 Bore – DROPLOCK, FIGURED WOOD, SINGLE TRIGGER, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Westley Richards, Year 1965, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 8oz, Chokes SK/IM, LOP 14 1/2", DAH 2 1/8", DAC 1 5/8" Serial Number: 19202 Introduced in 1897, the Westley Richards hand-detachable lock design has won many important patents over the years and is known for strength and reliability. The hand detachable locks are very simple with only six component parts – lock plate, cocking lifter, hammer, mainspring, sear and sear spring (see attached photo). If you take the locks out for cleaning or to disable your gun for safety or transport, they are impossible to put back into the gun incorrectly. The hand detachable lock gun allows you to insert replacement locks in seconds, and without tools, in the unlikely event of a problem. If you are out in wet weather or you take a spill in the creek you can easily and quickly remove the lock to dry, clean, and lubricate. The Westley Richards Droplock is the only action that has been famously successful and did not follow the basic boxlock or sidelock design. The Droplock gun is wholly reliable and just plain cool to own. Of course, a Westley Richards Droplock is the epitome of the English side x side, with lightweight, perfect balance, and dynamic handling characteristics that are what all others are measured by. This fine gun, serial number19202 built in 1965, is a beautiful example with ALL FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES, retaining 90% case color and 98% trigger plate blue, 98% barrel blue, 40% trigger guard blue, and most all of the original wood finish. The factory original 27” barrels are choked SK/IM (.007 and .029 choke constrictions by measure) with mirror bores, tight ribs, and in proof with .729 bore diameters and 2 ¾” chambers exactly as the day the gun passed proof in Birmingham. This gun is proofed for heavy 1 1/4oz. loads with its 3 ¼ ton proof stamps. The wood on this gun is beautifully figured English walnut with great stock dimensions of 14 ½ x 2 1/8” x 1 5/8” x ¼” cast off. It still retains its original checkered butt. If you need a longer LOP we can add a Purdey style leather covered pad right here in our gunsmith department. The action is covered with perfectly executed English scroll and the mechanics are in excellent working order including a positive safety, strong and well-timed ejectors, and a single selective trigger that works exactly the way it should every time. The barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun. The gun weighs 6 1/2lbs. and balances dead on the hinge pin and has that perfect feel that puts the gun at your shoulder almost without effort. We have priced this gun very reasonably so we can stimulate sales at this Christmas time of year.
