Beautiful 1937 Winchester Model 12 28 Gauge Skeet Grade Pump Gun
Description: Up for sale is a beautiful Winchester Model 12 28 gauge skeet gun with a solid rib made in 1937. It is serial number 750831. This is a very rare model with less than 4000 manufactured is 28 gauge. At some time, probably in the 1960s, the gun was restored with the metal being reblued and new wood was installed. It is a masterful job obviously done by a highly skilled professional restoration expert. The wood is absolutely spectacular AAAA crotch walnut and the bluing was carefully done to ensure that the lettering remained sharp and deep. A great many of this model were faked, that is “made up” from Model 12s using 16 gauge frames. This one is an original 28 gauge. This can be determined because “28” is stamped in the correct three locations as is shown in the photos: 1. On the barrel. 2. On the carrier. 3. On the rear of the receiver under the wood. Also, “skeet” is stamped in the two correct locations: 1. On the barrel. 2. On the underside of the receiver. As mentioned, the barrel has a solid rib and is 26 inches long. It has a mirror bright bore and the chamber length of 2 7/8 inches is stamped on the left side of the barrel. The W/P Winchester proof mark is also stamped in this location, correct for Winchester Model 12s with factory ribs. The barrel blue is excellent with no wear or scratches of any consequence. There is just very slight loss on the magazine tube from being cycled. The receiver blue is about 90%. There is some minor blue loss on either end of the left receiver panel plus some very faint polishing marks also on the left receiver panel. The rest of the receiver blue is close to excellent. Whoever did the stock work was a master craftsman and the grain of both the stock and the correct extended forend is absolutely stunning. The checkering is beautifully cut and in perfect condition. The pistol grip has a metal cap and the buttplate is the original Winchester logo black composition style. Length of pull is 14 1/8 inches. Drop at comb is 1 1/8 inches. Drop at heel is 2 1/8 inches. Although restored, here is your chance to own a correct rare Winchester Model 12 28 gauge in excellent condition. And at about one half the price or less than one with original wood. Call for additional details. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
