Winchester Model 21 20 Gauge – TRAP GRADE, PRE-WAR, CODY LETTER, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1937, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 9oz, Chokes WS1/WS2, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 9/16", DAC 1 5/8" Serial Number: 11029 Most are aware of the Winchester Model 21, a gun of superior strength. If you like heavy loads for tough birds like pheasants or ducks, or high volume shooting, this is your gun. You can shoot the heaviest magnum 2 ¾” shells in a Model 21 with no concerns. With the chokes on this gun, you can shoot steel or other, MORE EFFECTIVE, hard non-toxic shot like tungsten or Hevi-Shot without damage to the barrels. From 1930 to 1943 they only made 1900 20-gauge guns in all grades, most of them Standard Grades or Skeet Grades. The Trap-Skeet Grade was only produced from 1933 to 1939, making this Trap-Skeet 20ga. a real find, with likely less than 200 ever made. This gun, sn11029 built in 1937, is a highly desirable Trap Grade stocked with nicely figured feather-crotch walnut and checkered side panels that were characteristic of the Trap Grade Model 21. THE BARRELS AND ACTION ON THIS GUN RETAINS FACTORY ORIGINAL BLUE, something you just don’t see with Model 21’s any longer. Most have been refinished in that black, dark finish on the action that just isn’t right for a pre-war Model 21. This pre-war gun has about 85% of the charcoal blue still intact on the action, 99% factory blue on the barrels, about 90% charcoal blue on the trigger guard. The factory original wood has been restored with a hand rubbed Truoil finish and is gorgeous. She is a nice handling little shotgun weighing just 6lbs. 9oz (at least a ¼ pound lighter than most M21 twenty-gauge guns) that would be awesome for upland birds over dogs or in the thick stuff, or for clays games at your favorite gun club. The 26” barrels are choked WS1 and WS2. The “Skeet 1” choke is ideal for 25-yard shots. Many are not aware that the WS2 chokes are a little tighter than Improved Cylinder at 10 thousandths constriction…ideal for your upland game. The Trap Grade was said to have special attention to boring, chokes, and finish with highly figured wood, and checkered side panels. The "Trap/Skeet" was a skeet choked Trap Grade. At 85 years old this Model 21 is in remarkable condition having been well cared for, with perfect mechanics (this is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, the action and forend iron having been stripped to their smallest part, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed to shiny metal, all parts inspected for function and integrity, lubricated, and reassembled, a $325 service in our shop and carrying a 90 day mechanical warranty), mirror bores, tight ribs, barrels tight on face and hinge pin like a new gun, perfect screws…just a little carry wear on the bottom of the receiver as one would expect. The wood-to-metal fit is superb, no cracks or repairs, and the checkered butt is still intact from the factory...all the characteristics that set it apart from the others offered for sale. This is a hard to find, high condition, mostly original, Model 21 that matches the Cody Firearms Museum info sheet to the “T” (included with the sale), so don’t miss out! Buy the gun now!
