Winchester Model 42 410GA 28" Barrel Circa 1936
Description: Offered here is a highly desirable Winchester Model 42 chambered in .410 gauge, featuring a 28 inch barrel and manufactured circa 1936. Early production Model 42s from the 1930s are especially sought after by collectors, as they represent the formative years of Winchester’s only pump action shotgun built specifically for the .410 bore. This example is configured with a solid flat filed rib and a barrel marked FULL choke, a classic and versatile field configuration. Even more desirable is the English straight grip checkered walnut stock paired with the elongated skeet style forend. Straight grip Model 42s are far less common than standard pistol grip versions, and this stock style gives the gun a sleek, lively feel in the hands while adding significantly to its collector appeal. The Model 42 was introduced in 1933 as a scaled down version of the Model 12, purpose built for the .410 shell rather than adapted from a larger frame. Because of its trim proportions, smooth action, and Winchester build quality, the Model 42 quickly became one of the finest .410 repeating shotguns ever produced. Early pre war guns such as this one are particularly valued for their fit, finish, and craftsmanship. Condition is excellent overall. The bore is bright, shiny, and free from pitting or frosting. Metal surfaces retain strong original finish with only very light, honest bluing wear. The wood is solid with no cracks and shows only minor handling marks consistent with careful use. Mechanically, the shotgun is excellent and functions as it should. • Manufacturer: Winchester • Model: 42 • Gauge: .410 Bore • Barrel Length: 28 inches • Choke: Marked FULL • Rib: Solid Flat Filed Rib • Action: Pump • Stock: Checkered Walnut English Straight Grip • Forend: Elongated Skeet Style Forend • Chamber: 3 inch • Bore Condition: Excellent Bright and Clean • Overall Condition: Excellent • Manufacture Date: Circa 1936 This is a scarce and attractive pre war Winchester Model 42 with several desirable features that set it apart from standard field grades.
