1897 "BLACK DIAMOND" TRAP GUN TWO BARREL MATCHING NUMBER SET, #379XXX, MADE 1907
Description: 1897 "BLACK DIAMOND" TRAP GUN TWO BARREL MATCHING NUMBER SET, #379XXX, MADE 1907. A very unusual and scarce two barrel set. Both 12 ga. barrels have matching serial numbers to the receiver and both are 30” and both are special order matte barrel top with Winchester address, proofs and choke markings on the sides of the barrels. One barrel is Full choke and the other is a scarce Cylinder choke with “FULL” and “CYL” marked on the barrel sides. The stock has the black diamond inlays in each side of the wrist, is straight, without pistol grip, and checkered. The forends are both checkered. The stock was later fitted with a solid red unmarked recoil pad and the length of pull measures 13 ½” from the center of the trigger guard to the center of the butt pad. The Gull choke barrel and assembly is mostly aged to brown with blue in the protected rear portions. The forend checkering is all visible, but worn- this is the loose barrel in the photos. The Cylinder choke barrel (on the receiver in the photos) has at least half the thinning blue remaining, with the balance brown. The forend checkering is more pronounced on this barrel which seems to have had less use than the Full choke assembly. The receiver is mostly brown. The stock is solid with worn, but all visible checkering. The wood hasn’t been cleaned and appears to be of a grade higher than standard- typical for this model. The breech block is marked “TRAP GUN.” Bores are excellent, takedown is tight, mechanically excellent, strong safety half-cock, pump release button for unloading functions properly. Matching two barrel sets are rarely found especially with a 30” Cylinder choke barrel. A scarce 118 year old special order pump gun! $1495.
