Winchester ~ Model 1897 Trench Gun ~ 12 Gauge
Description: Post-WWI commercial Winchester Model 1897 Trench Gun pump-action shotgun chambered in 12 Gauge. Adopted for use in 1899 by the US military and in service into the Vietnam War. The serial number (712261) indicates that the shotgun was produced in late 1922 to early 1923. No Ordnance or U.S. marks. The serial number shows that this example is slightly outside of documented U.S. contract Winchester trench shotgun manufacture. However, it is common knowledge that the U.S. Government purchased a few thousand of this model during that time frame for the military, state, as well as federal police agencies and prisons. It is a standard 1897 non-takedown model with the high-comb walnut stock, early six-hole pattern handguard/heat shield with the bayonet lug on the front end with the large bail sling swivel on the underside of the lug. The stock is fitted with a black, hard rubber, checkered buttplate embossed with the Winchester logo in the center and is fitted with a Winchester pattern lower sling swivel. The left side of the barrel has the Winchester factory two-line address and patent markings, followed by "12 GA." with "CYL." stamped in front of the receiver. It has the fixed (non-takedown) barrel assembly, so the serial number is stamped on the underside of the receiver only. Comes with a period correct M1917 bayonet and scabbard. 12 Gauge SOLD Chambers: 2.75 inch Metal Condition: Good with Handling Marks and Finish Wear Wood Condition: Good with Handling Marks and Scratches Bore Condition: Bright And Clear with No Pitting Barrels: 20 inch Butt Pad: Plastic Weight: 8 Lbs 2 oz Sights: Front Bead Chokes: Fixed CYL Item Location: Fort Worth, TX |
