Description:
The Winchester Model 1897 is a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun featuring a 28-inch barrel with a full choke. The receiver is steel, paired with a wood pistol-grip stock and grooved forearm. This takedown configuration includes an external hammer and tubular magazine with a standard five-round capacity. The firearm was manufactured in 1901 and bears serial number 137692. The length of pull measures approximately 13 inches, and overall length is about 46½ inches.
This shotgun is used. The bore condition is described as very good, showing light wear consistent with use. Metal surfaces retain portions of the original blued finish, now transitioning to a gray patina. The forearm has a crack on the left side, and the butt has been replaced with an aftermarket nailed-on piece. The action type allows slam-fire operation, characteristic of early Winchester 1897 models. The barrel is chambered for 2¾-inch shells and fitted with a fixed full choke. The receiver includes a grooved top and checked hammer, and the front sight is an ivory bead.
Included are the original wood stock and forearm, both showing handling marks and wear from service but remaining functional. The leather butt plate currently installed is a non-original replacement. No additional accessories or factory packaging are listed. Overall, this Winchester Model 1897 represents an early 20th-century production pump shotgun with its original mechanical configuration and period features intact.
