Historic Winchester Shotgun Belonging To Baseball Hall of Famer Ty Cobb
Description:
For sale here is a cool piece of sporting history, a Winchester Model 12 that was made for customer Ty Cobb, one of the greatest Major League Baseball players of all time. Cobb was the first player ever inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and is very widely considered one of the five best hitters ever and retains the highest career batting average of any player in baseball history. This piece is consigned to us by the customer that purchased it originally from Cobb's grandson, Charles L. Cobb. It is accompanied by a couple of signed documents from Cobb, including one directly stating he gifted it to our consignor. The listing also includes a baseball signed by the grandson, included as a gift, which was given to our consignor.
The shotgun was made in 1920 and sports a 30-inch barrel with a full choke. The gun has been refinished sometime in the past, and the receiver has been buffed and polished. There are pricklings of pitting visible under the finish on the front of the receiver and on the barrel. The stock is in great shape with a shiny varnish, and checkering is still present. There is a half-inch crack at the wrist on the lower tang. The forend is in great shape with prominent checkering. The bore is bright with some debris from storage. The action functions properly. LOP is 14.25.
