Offered here for sale and just acquired is one of the most desirable of all Winchester modern longarms of the 20th century.
This shotgun is part of one of the most respected American double guns ever made: the Winchester Model 21.  Serial number 31,524 this shotgun was manufactured approximately in 1954 (early-mid 1950s production).

These were standard features for hunting versions of the Model 21, especially upland bird guns. Standard Grade guns typically came with 26", 28", 30", or 32" barrels and walnut stocks with checkering.
A 26" barrel with IC/Mod was a very popular configuration for:

• quail
• grouse
• woodcock
• pheasant

The Winchester Model 21 was introduced in 1931 as Winchester’s premium American side-by-side shotgun. Winchester wanted a gun to compete with high-grade doubles from Parker Bros., A.H. Fox and the finer British guns such as Purdey.  The design goal was extreme strength and durability.
The Model 21 became famous because of several unique design traits-  Extremely strong action, large rotary bolt locking system and one of the strongest double-gun actions ever built.
Barrels were labor-intensive to regulate so both patterns converged properly. Many guns were built to order. Wood fit and dimensions often tailored. Because of the labor involved, production numbers stayed low.
Total produced: about 30,000 guns during main production from  1931–1959 and later 1960–1991: limited Custom Shop production.
20 gauge Model 21s are more desirable than 12 gauge, especially with 26" or 28" barrels. Factory ejectors. High original condition. This 98–99% condition example is considered excellent collector grade. Superb Winchester collectible.
