Winchester Model 21 Grade 4 in 20GA Two Barrel Set 26 inch and 30 inch
Description: Gun is now sold pending receipt of funds. I have for sale a beautiful Winchester Model 21 in Grade 4 in 20 gauge. This is a two barrel set with 26 inch and 30 inch vent rib barrels. This gun has a story and I’ll try to cover all the facts as I know them. Gun started life in 1937 as a 20 gauge skeet grade gun with 26 inch barrels choked skeet 1 and skeet 2. Then in 1942 it was sent back to Winchester for Engraving (see attached Cody letter). It doesn’t specify what engraving was done but after close examination by myself and several other very knowledgeable Winchester people I feel certain the engraving on this gun was done by Winchester and the gun was turned into a flat side gun. They mention in the letter altering the wood to match the “filed frame”. At some later time a new stock and the 30 inch set of barrels were added. The 30 inch barrels are identical to the 26 inch barrels in vent rib, lettering, and engine turning. The 30 inch barrels are marked IM and Full. They are stamped 2 3/4 inches but measure 3 inches. Again, both sets of barrels are identical with every regard with the exception of length of barrels and chambers. Both barrels sport red Bradley front sights and a metal mid bead. The stock that was added is truly exhibition grade and the workmanship is to the highest standard in every way. Wood to metal fit as you can see in the attached pictures is superb as is the fine checkering. Stock dimensions are 1 1/2 X 2 1/2 X 14 1/2 over a 3/4 inch Decelerator solid pad. Cast of the stock is neutral so this gun will work for both right and left hand shooters. Take a look at the pictures and I think you’ll agree this is a beautiful piece of American Black Walnut. Here are the measurements on the barrels: 26 inch set is skeet 1 and skeet 2 and both bores measure .613. The right barrel choke area flares as all Winchester skeet 1’s do. The left barrel has .008 constriction for perfect skeet 2. The 30 inch barrels both bores measure .612 and right barrel has .013 of constriction and the left barrel .017. Weight of the gun is 7 pounds 4 ounces with the 30 inch barrels, 7 pounds exactly with the 26 inch barrels. Numbers match on all parts of the gun and both barrels as you can see in the attached pictures. Here is what I believe happened with this gun. I believe it was initially engraved in the Grade 4 by Winchester when sent back and the original stock was kept on it although altered to match the receiver which was filed to a flat side. Then I believe the gun was sent at some recent time to Connecticut Shotgun to have the extra barrels fitted and the stock work done. I contacted them and they told me they do not keep records on alteration work performed so I cannot prove this but the work certainly is excellent whomever did it. To duplicate this gun today would be much, much more than the asking price. Condition of this gun is amazing with only a few very light handling marks in the stock and the barrels are both lovely. This is a superb gun that will turn heads whenever it is taken out of the Galazan leather luggage case with the cavas and leather cover. This gun will do it all for you and look good doing it. Price of the gun is $15950 plus $100 shipping to your FFL. As always there is a three day non-firing inspection period with the buyer paying shipping charges if returned. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.
