FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION, PRE-WAR MODEL 42 WINCHESTER mfg 1937 serial 297xx. 26' PLAIN BBL,MOD CHOKE. original (charcoal or carbonum machine bluing used on early pre war guns) is thinning mostly on the left side of the receiver,bbl ring and carrying area ( as seen in pics). screws are excellent. the gun is very tight in the takedown area and is mechanically excellent. nicely figured SKEET straight grip stock and extension forend. these plain bbl guns with straight grip stocks and extension slide handles are sleek looking and very functional for youth shooters, as the leading hand can be placed anywhere on the slide handle.this one also has the original butt stock with winchester butt plate and slide handle and period takedown case. 81 yrs young, still looks and shoots great. 42's are just fun shotguns. get one and get out with the kids and have some fun breaking clays or just add it to your collection.
