Produced from 1912 to 1964 (with limited runs continuing until 1980), it is renowned for its machined steel parts and hand-fitted internal mechanisms. Almost all Model 12s feature a takedown mechanism, allowing the barrel and magazine assembly to be easily separated from the receiver for transport.
