Smith & Wesson 38-44 Outdoorsman Pre- War Target Model Pistol
Description:
This pistol is the rare variation of the standard pre war 38-44 Outdoorsman model. It is fitted with a adjustable rear sight that is contoured to the top strap's frame. There were about 4,761 of these pistols produced between 1931 to 1941. This pistol's serial number is 48995. This Smith & Wesson is fitted with a 6 and a 1/2 inch barrel. It is chambered for the 38 Special and the hot loaded 38-44 ammunition which was the forerunner of the 357 magnum. This 38-44 Outdoorsman is in almost new condition! It shows very little use or shooting. Has the correct pinned front sight and barrel. The color cased hammer and trigger show almost all of the strong coloring. There is a slight rub mark on the left side of the hammer due to hammer action. The grips are serial numbered to this pistol. The diamond center grips are also in very fine condition with sharp checkering. There is no dents or flattening of the checkering points. The cylinder has a visable drag line between the stops. There is a very faint lightness of the bluing on each side of the muzzle tip. The pistol's original bluing and polish is the best finish I have ever seen done on a early "Smith". It is stunning to say the least! The finish would rate a 98% or better overall. This is one very stunning Smith & Wesson that would be one of the Crowns of anybody's collection.
