PROBABLE CONFEDERATE ENFIELD PATTERN 1853 PERCUSSION RIFLE MUSKET. .577 caliber rifled 39” barrel with Birmingham Export proofs at the left breech. Lock plate stamped “TOWER/1862”. Standard the band Infantry pattern used by both sides during the war but with a high percentage purchased by the Confederate States and the Confederate Govt. itself. This particular example came from a collection in Virginia and has carved initials “WS” in the right butt stock upside down in the Confederate manner (initials appear upright in a rifle stack). Dark metal patina and original patinated wood finish. Lock in working order and dark bore but rifling visible. Original ramrod.
