Civil War Era 1864 Type Infantry Cartridge Box by S.H. Young
Description: A Civil War era 1864 type infantry cartridge box. Made by S.H. Youg & Co. of Newark, N.J. The back is clearly marked with the S.H. Young stamp. The cover has the mark of R. White, U.S. Ordnance Department Sub Inspector. The mark is visible on the lower right corner of the cover but the letters are hard to discern. Both of the tinned metal boxes are present and in good condition, not deformed or rusted. The belt loops and black enameled sling attachments are both presenty and in good condition. The loops are solid, not cracked, and not in danger of falling apart. The leather is pliable and looks to have had some preservative applied at some point. It is dark and smooth, not cracked. The more delicate calf skin implement pouch is in good condition, not torn. One of a handful of authentic Civil War and Indian War era cartridge boxes we have for sale, including two percussion pistol boxes, an 1876 type McKeever box, and a cavalry Spencer carbine cartridge box. See our other listings, here and on eBay. SOLD |
