A .56 cal.,rifle with a 37” octagon barrel with a bright near excellent bore with a touch of light oxidation in the grooves of the strong rifling. The barrel and lock of this rifle, which was likely made from a Dixie Gun Works kit or similar, retain perhaps 50% maker brown finish which is showing overall wear to gray patina with some moderate oxidation around the muzzle, scattered spots of lighter oxidation, and overall scattered light handling marks. The German silver mountings show some light cloudiness and some scattered spots of light tarnish, and the brass sideplate is toning to a warm goldenrod patina with some light handling marks. The smooth hardwood fullstock with scant left side cheekpiece rates about very good plus with areas of finish wear along the buttstock, and some scattered light handling marks. The barrel is sighted with a brass blade front and semi-buckhorn rear, the patchbox door has become detached showing an old failed repair at the hinge, the rifle includes a brass-tipped hardwood ramrod, and the single acting double set triggers and action appear to function well mechanically.
