The SIG Sauer P228 is one of the classic double-action service pistols of the late Cold War and post-Cold War era, respected for its balance, reliability, and exceptionally smooth shooting characteristics. Manufactured in Germany and later assembled/imported through SIG Sauer’s U.S. operations, the P228 became widely known through military and law enforcement use, most famously as the foundation for the U.S. military’s M11 sidearm.
