AMES FIVE BALL EAGLE HEAD U.S. INFANTRY OFFICER’S SWORD AND SCABBARD CIRCA 1829-35.
Description: AMES FIVE BALL EAGLE HEAD U.S. INFANTRY OFFICER’S SWORD AND SCABBARD CIRCA 1829-35. 36” o/a with 30 ½” straight blade acid etched and engraved with floral and martial motifs including a fine Federal Eagle and Stand of Flags. Brass hilt and scabbard and fluted bone grip. Distinctive Ames Eagle Head with wide open beak. An identical sword pictured on page 45 of “THE AMES SWORD COMPANY 1829-1935” by John D. Hamilton. Good condition with guard missing a section at top that can be restored by a professional. Blade etching with moderate wear but clearly visible. Ames address worn and only traces visible.
