This British Naval dirk circa 1800 is complete with its original scabbard. The overall length is 19.5"". The 14 5/8"" blade is finished bright with scattered spotting. The obverse side has, from the hilt, an engraved 2.25"" semicircular double line arc with sun bursts inside, approx. 2"" of flower motif engraving, a .75"" pineapple, a 1.25"" nearly circular double line oval with small circles between the lines with fouled anchor within, and 2.5"" of flower motif ending in a fleur de lis type flower. The reverse side has the same 2.25"" semicircular double line arc, a 2.75"" flag and shield motif engraving, a 1.25"" nearly circular oval with a cornucopia within, and approx. 2.75"" of flower motif ending in leaves. The 4.5"" brass recurved cross guard features center rain guards with grotesque lion heads. The 3 5/8"" round turned bone handle has an approx. 5/8"" circular brass termination at the hilt and an approx. 1"" pillow pommel. The first approx. 3/8"" of the pillow pommel is turned bone followed by a brass cap with the same grotesque lion head at the top. The brass mounted scabbard is very good with intact leather which has a few areas of flaking. This is a great example of an early British Naval dirk. Don't miss it!
