Walther GSP OSP early first version Set w/box, extra magazines
Description:
Set of early GSP and OSP with extra matched magazines. For the collector, engineer, or user.
In further detail:
Early production, first versions of the Walther GSP and OSP. Strikingly better quality in finish and manufacture than all later GSP & OSP. Original Box with the GSP. Extra magazines available with both of the original style bases . The magazines for both guns differ from later ones. Later version magazines will not fit these guns. The GSP is from the second year of production of this series, which included a production of 4218 guns.
Both guns differ from the later GSP production, with the serial number being on frame, rather than the upper section or receiver with the frame not being numbered until the final series of GSP Expert guns.
Very light (GSP) or light (OSP) use, excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition, but not NIB. Box for GSP only, with some shelf wear, with no test target or booklet.
Current retail value of the pair is approximately $2800. Offers can be considered. An offer of $2000 for both guns, with 2 magazines for each gun is likely to be accepted. Phone calls are fine, but due to the number of junk calls out there, email is better for initial contact. Additional magazines for these guns are available with that purchase, at moderate added cost rather than current market prices.
Despite their age, the mechanical condition and accuracy of these guns renders them very suitable for field and target use, if that is intended or desired. The metal finish on the early OSP and GSP are much darker and more finely done than on the later guns. It may be necessary to tilt the display screen forward with LCD screens or to change the brightness to see the colors and blackness clearly.
SNs of the two guns are about 100 digits apart, but the guns are from different model series, and this does not reflect a close match in production dates.
Direct descendents of the Mauser C96.
About 10 versions of the GSP and about 5 of the OSP were produced over the decades. This set is of interest to those curious about "the originals" and how they differed, or were similar to the later ones. Unlike the current or later GSP and OSP guns, these guns, while modular in design, do not have interchangable modules between them, and the barrel mount for the OSP is quite different from the GSP, using a dovetail interlock with no bolt. The later GSP barrels will not fit the upper section of this GSP, due to a difference in center bore size. Both guns require a magazine specific to the early models, will not accept the .32 magazines unless the magazine well is rebored, and will not accept 22 magazines with front ribbons or ridges.
The early version OSP will not accept the GSP grips (see images), and the front sights differ. The GSP rear sigtht is different from the later versions.
The OSP barrel is ported, which can be closed for higher MV if desired.
Both guns have trigger block safeties. Unlike the later GSP and OSP, both guns are designed to have a "standard" last round hold open of the breech, which is operational on both with the magazines provided. The current 8 and 10 rd GSP magazines will not fit this GSP easily, due to a slightly larger front to rear dimension on all later GSP magazine wells. Four magazines are included with each gun. Additional ones may be available.
The triggers are single stage match or target triggers that are adjustable, but the adjustment screws are not quite as easy to reach as on the later versions.
This GSP will not accept the GSP rifle barrels, 10" "free pistol" barrel made by Koenig (Germany) for the GSP, or most of the later versions of the GSP barrel due to difference in base dimension. The OSP will not accept the OSP2000 barrel.
Although these guns were acquired by me in Germany and originally sold there, the caliber markings and safeties indicate the model actually was intended for the USA market.
If a later version of either the GSP or OSP are desired, a few are available. Please contact if so desired, so that they can be listed on this service if appropriate.
The listed price includes 2 original magazines for each. Final price is to be determined by the total number of magazines desired, and shipping costs. Both guns have importer marks, not having been sold in the USA by Walther or Interarms.
The GSP and OSP were derived from the Mauser C96, via an intermediary Mauser design, the Romonowski "GSP". While not the most accurate gun ever made for this purpose, the basic design provided good accuracy, durability, excellent feeding, and modlar parts interchangbility. Although Walthr has discontinued the design, it remains in use by Pardini, as what continues to be a very high quality target pistol.
The finish on these guns is much "finer" than any later production OSP or GSP. Accuracy is about the same. Parts and modules on these do not interchange easily with later OSP or GSP.
Shipping to most locations is around $50 by ground. Both guns are C&R listed.
Due to the many variations in the OSP and GSP with time, it is advisable to obtain knowledgable and competent information and advice prior to, or during purchase. When comparing prices on these guns, also note, the magazines themselves are quite uncommon, and often not readily available. The additional magazines that can be provided are with both flat and coved bases. Only the coved or curved bases are illustrated.
Other handguns by this manufacturer in the GSP and OSP series are potentially available, but not advertised as yet. This includes Linbrunner and Romanovsky variations, and fully nickel plated 22/32 sets, among others. Feel free to inquire, if interested.
The 3 day approval period, a standard default format from Guns Internationalm can be extended on require due to local delays in delivery that may occur, and time required to evaluate and these the firearms.
