The Walther P.38 was adopted by the German Wehrmacht to replace the costly and labor-intensive P.08 Luger, providing a more modern military sidearm that was faster to manufacture while maintaining excellent battlefield performance. By 1945, the P.38 had become one of Germany’s principal service pistols and saw widespread issue to Heer, Luftwaffe, and other armed formations during the final months of World War II. This late-war example represents the culmination of Walther's wartime production.
