The serial number 28579 places production between 1864 and 1870, as National Arms produced approximately 30,000 of these revolvers during this period. Designed by Daniel Moore, the teat-fire cartridge system was a unique front-loading mechanism developed to circumvent Smith & Wesson’s Rollin White patent on bored-through cylinders, making it a significant innovation during the American Civil War era. This revolver, marked "Moore's Pat Firearms Co. Brooklyn, N.Y." on the barrel, was popular as a backup weapon for soldiers and civilians due to its compact size and reliability.
