Hartford Arms Co. and the New No. 2 Model:

• Hartford Arms Co. was a company based in Hartford, Connecticut. It is best known for manufacturing inexpensive, small-frame revolvers aimed at the mass market. They were a significant player in the trade of firearms during the post-Civil War era, especially when demand for cheap, easily concealable handguns was high.
• The New No. 2 model was one of the most popular revolvers produced by the Hartford Arms Co. It was a single-action revolver with a spur trigger, meaning that it required the shooter to manually pull back the hammer before firing, and it had a small, compact design suitable for self-defense or as a “pocket gun.”
• The spur trigger design  is a distinctive feature of this revolver. The design was often criticized for being less safe than other trigger mechanisms, but it was common on inexpensive revolvers at the time. Condition:  Nice slightly oxidized bore, minor pitting and still showing strong rifling. Metal finish is in very good condition retain about 90% of the original nickel plate with some minor scratches light flaking and oxidation speckling.   Original beautiful rosewood grips rate about excellent condition . All matching numbers and barrel markings are clear and legible.  Please judge the condition from the text and photos provided.  Mechanically appears to work in single action with good cylinder timing. The hammer spring holds in single action but makes a little noise and may have been a replacement.

Overall, this antique rare revolver is a good example of a collectible piece of firearms history. Its good condition, unique features  and rich history make it a valuable addition to any firearms collection.
