Single Action .22rf , a civil war era Pocket Revolver First Model , Second Variation 7 shot. .22 cal. 3 1/8"” octagon barrel round frame , Circular brass frame plate, 3-groove rifling, Barrel markings on the barrel in an arc motif. a copy of the S&W first Model issue Manufactured from April 1861 -62. Serial number 1627. About 17,000 produced Made by Manhattan Firearms Company Seven shot cylinder with 14 cylinder stop notches 3 1/8” raised rib octagon barrel that tips-up for loading Single action, spur trigger .22RF Brass frame with blued barrel & cylinder 2 Piece smooth walnut grips Scroll engraving on side flats of the barrel Brief Company History: The Manhattan Arms Company was a significant player in the firearms industry during the mid-19th century. Founded in 1856, it was based in Newark, New Jersey. The company quickly gained prominence for its innovative designs and quality craftsmanship, particularly in the realm of revolvers and pistols. Manhattan Arms Co. was a direct competitor to other renowned firearm manufacturers of the time, including Colt, Remington, and Smith & Wesson. Condition: Nice bore with a light oxidation and minor pitting from black powder use. The iron frame , cylinder and barrel have worn to a pewter gun-metal gray patina with oxidation stains and light pin-prick pitting. Revolver has factory engraving on the breach end of the flats. Brass circular side plate in very good condition. The smooth walnut grips are in good condition retaining most of the original varnish showing some light handling marks with solid fit to frame and are numbered to the gun. The barrel markings are clear and legible. The barrel and cylinder are serial numbered to the gun. German silver front sight blade remains intact. The barrel to frame fit has just a slight bit of play. . The action is functional with very strong hammer spring, good timing and lock-up. Due to their historical significance, limited production numbers,, Manhattan Arms Co. pistols are highly sought after by collectors of antique firearms.
