Excellent & High Condition 1st Issue Colt Police Positive .38 Special - Circa 1925 Prohibition Era

This five-inch barrel, .38 Special was first introduced in 1907 as the Police Positive Special, a larger and stronger version of Colt's Police Positive, built on a larger, longer frame with a heavier cylinder made to handle the more powerful .38 Special cartridge.
The "1st Issue" Police Positive Special remained in production until 1927, when the 2nd Issue was released, which ended in 1946. 1st Issue revolvers had proven very popular with civilians, police and government agencies, and quickly earned a reputation for being very well-made, reliable, accurate, and most importantly, powerful revolvers.

Offered here is an excellent example which features Colt's High Polish blue finish, 6-shot fluted cylinder, fixed sights, and checkered Gutta Percha grips. 
The bright Polish finish shows 98% with a slight hint of high edge wear at the muzzle, with light handling marks.
The bore is excellent, showing mirror-bright with strong, sharp rifling, as are the chambers. The original grips are in excellent condition with sharp checkering, without chips or cracks.
The action operates perfectly, with no end-play in the cylinder and a solid lock-up. There is no fouling to either the cylinder face nor forcing cone, and no shell impact marks on the recoil shield.

This piece is in excellent condition throughout. A fine addition to any Colt / Prohibition Era collection.
