The first large caliber revolver produced by S&W. An historic gun, some were used at the Battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876. Also carried by many outlaws and lawmen in that period. The first cartridge revolver purchased by the U.S, govt.
Gun in good condition, original and complete..Metal surfaces, brown patina. No heavy pitting. Some light pitting on barrel rib which partially obscures U.S. and patent markings. Wood good. Light depression on leftr grip where cartouch normally is.
Ainsworth inspected. Letter (A) stamped on left side of frame.
