(Edgar) Roberts141 Steelhouse Lane & 22 Weaman St. Birmingham: A 450 3 1/4" Black Powder Express Double Rifle That Absolutely Appears Unfired with Bores as New, 100% Case Colors on the Breech Face, 100% blue on the firing pins, Here is an opportunity to buy a turn-of-the century BPE double rifle that almost reflects the condition it looked like the day the buyer purchased the piece, Henry Jones Underlever, Rebounding Hammers, 26" Extractor Fluid Steel Shoe Lump barrels, Flat rib with a neat beaded pattern, 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, Double triggers, Long trigger guard tang to an engraved steel grip cap, A very early frontal Anson & Deeley forend release that is W. Anson Patent #13138, Sling eyes, 14 1/4" LOP over a checkered butt with engraved steel heel and toe plates, 8 lbs. 6 oz., Border engraving on all metal parts; This nice piece retains 99% original case colors on the frame, locks, hammers, opening lever, trigger guard, forend metal and the heel and toe plates, The inside of the forend has 100% colors, The breech face with 99% colors and zero primer burn, The original barrel blue at 98%, The bores are absolutely as new and look like the day the rifling was cut, 90% original wood finish with scattered handling marks, The checkering remains at 99%, A vacant Nickel Silver escutcheon. This piece has the mechanics, execution, style and function just like the Rigby's, Holland & Holland's, Evans, Lang, Churchill, Army & Navy, Webley etc. from this era. Edgar Roberts started in the trade in 1900, was at 141 Steelhouse Lane and 22 Weaman Street from 1903 to 1923 (The address of this gun) and remained there until 1923. His shop was at at 22 Weaman Street only in 1924 to 1928. His address then changed to 22 Bath Street in 1928 and he remained there until 1936. Hence this quality gun was built about 1913 or 1914. It most likely was retailed and/or finished by Roberts rather than made by his shop as Birmingham made thousands identical to this piece from that great era.
