This carbine is very similar to the issue British Pattern 1856 cavalry carbine. It is approx. 37 1/2"" long. The round approx. 21"" smooth bore 58 caliber barrel has a fair bore. Differing from the two leaf rear sight of the British Pattern 1856 carbine, this carbine has a fixed notch rear sight. The barrel is inspected E/crown/1. It also has a 5/8"" long oval what appears to be an East India Company stamp on the top flat. The lock is marked 1856/ENFIELD at the center with a small crown over broad arrow to the right and crown over V.R at the tail. All the metal has a smooth gray/brown patina. The brass nosecap, triggerguard, and buttplate are good with even wear and patina. The stock is very good with no chips or cracks and light issue/use wear. It has two Enfield rondels dated 1855 on the right butt. The sling ring and bar, swivels, and captured ramrod are present The action functions correctly. This is a reasonably priced example of the Pattern 1856 cavalry carbine.
