ADAM KRUCHENREUKER OF REGENSBURG - EXCEPTIONAL GERMAN PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE
SALE PENDING
Description: Adam Kuchenreuter of Regensburg – Exceptional German Percussion Sporting Rifle Late 19th Century | Functional Work of Art Offered is an extraordinary German percussion sporting rifle by Adam Kuchenreuter of Regensburg, dating to the late 1880s, and representing one of the most celebrated names in European gunmaking history. The Kuchenreuter family of gunmakers traces its origins to 1640, with the firm still in operation today, maintaining four locations and its own museum. Over the centuries, Kuchenreuter firearms were commissioned by and supplied to the Czars of Russia, Emperor Napoleon, the Emperor of Austria, and the King of Bavaria. The name is universally associated with the highest level of functional artistry, where technical excellence and aesthetic refinement meet. The German Hunting Guns internet site (see last image) features an excellent scholarly article on the Kuchenreuter legacy, underscoring their status as makers of extremely high-end, collectible sporting arms. This rifle exemplifies that tradition. It is highly engraved with refined scrollwork and a detailed hunting scene, while the buttstock is masterfully carved, depicting a resting hunter affectionately petting his faithful dog—a rare and evocative motif seldom encountered even on premium German rifles. The 29 1/4" octagon barrel retains a handsome browned finish and features an excellent bore. The rifle is equipped with a set trigger, original rear peep sight, and a hinged patchbox precisely inlet into the stock. The lockwork is fully functional, crisp, and correct. Condition is remarkable, especially for a percussion rifle of this age and artistic complexity, making it suitable for the advanced collector, curated display, or careful use.
