Percussion Target Rifle
Description: Percussion target rifle from NE Ohio. Built by M. Wood (Mason Wood) of Chatham Center, Lafayette Township, Medina County, Ohio. Probably made in the mid 1850's. Barrel was made by Peter N Reitzli of Canton Ohio (Walnut and 5th St). On the bottom of the barrel under the wood, is the name S. Gates with a starburst pattern. This is likely the original owner. I do not know how the rifle came to Southeastern Michigan. It came to me from my grandfather through my father. I have fired the rifle mny times and my father took it deer hunting several times. $850 includes shipping References: Ohio Gunsmiths... by Donald Hutsler. Vol III pg 185 and Vol IV page 213.
