Feinwerkbau 2602 Short Barrel Supermatch (heavy barrel)
Description: Short, heavy barrel version provides improved accuracy at 50 M/Y over standard barrel lengths, due to reduced amplitude of vibration, and shifts the center of gravity towards the stock, reducing the need for added stock weights and barrel tuners. This rifle is not the same as the more commonly seen one of standard barrel length. It also uses simpler, less troublesome bolt and trigger designs compared to current versions. Lock time is a little longer than current production, but this makes no practical difference in accuracy or other performance of the rifle compared to the newer versions. The short barrel, however, makes a significant difference in handling, and some difference in accuracy at 50M. FWB Feinwerkbau 2602 with short (16.5") heavy barrel, adjustable wood stock, sling, front and rear sights, front hand stop, manual, and test target. Excellent condition. Front sight was an OEM option, using an adjustable iris, that functions correctly. Slight use wear to the iris adjustment ring fingergrip area. Barrel is 16.75", heavy weight, with sight extension. Can be used without the extension with a scope mount, or with a front sight clamp mount (not included). Accuracy is not quite as good as my KK-200 wood stock rifle also listed via this service (in side by side testing), and significantly less than the German National Team KK-200 offered and also listed, but is excellent and very much the equal of most Anschutz and Walther rifles, as indicated in the test target. The short barrel rifle offers a more "comfortable" use for non-prone firing due to the weight distribution, but becomes a little less accurate than the standard rifle at 100-200 meters. However, the offset is the much lighter feel and greater ease of use, due to the short barrel. This can make the rifle ideal for smaller-sized users, or those who are not competition weight lifters. Some prefer to use match pistol ammunition with it, due to the better match in burn time. The rifle is superb and the equal of the Walther KK-M and Anschutz 54 or 1907/2007 series guns on average. There is variability in the individual guns from all 3 of those manufacturers, and this one was selected for top 10% accuracy of its co-produced rifles. It is very close in accuracy to the wood stock KK200 also offered, but not as accurate as the custom made, National Team KK200 offered, or the 1907/1914 offered. The rifle can be scoped, but the dovetail scope (and front sight) railes on FWB rifles are not flat topped like Anschutz or Walther. As a result, they require either rear diopter sights or scope mounts that will fit a dovetail with a slight top curvature, an adapter, or the tops require filing or milling to achieve the needed flatness. This rifle also uses and includes spacer blocks for the sights, for longer range use. There are slight age defects in the finish of the stock, very difficult to photograph, that appear as slight wrinking in some lighting. The rifle has had light use, enough to be past the initial break-in period required for barrel stress to settle, but not enough to cause noticible wear. The rifle can be tested on sight prior to purchase, and is returnable if not of required accuracy. The overall length, with the extension attached, is about 1-2" longer than on the Walther KKM and KK200 or similar rifles, which improve sighting but may require removal of the extension tube for some storage or transport cases. In general, and for this particular rifle, the wood stocked series is more accurate in actual use than the metal stocks, due to suppression of vibration coupling. Unlike the G&E, Bleiker and Keppeler stocks, the FWB metal stock is not specially tuned for that purpose, resulting in this deterioration in accuracy with the metal stock. The tradeoff is between panache and glamor, and accuracy. Tanner does not offer full metal stocks, for precisely that reason. However, the metal stock may be preferred if the rifle resides in equitorial jungle or island areas. Also, please note, the short barrel 2602 supermatch is not just a 2600 with a shortened barrel of same type. The barrel is significantly heavier and thicker than the standard 2600 barrel. The accuracy generally is better than the 2600 at any distance. Overall, a superb rifle, despite these limitations. Shipped at FedEx or UPS ground cost, which generally is around $75 for this rifle to most US locations other than far NW, some RM regions, or west coast.
