Retains nearly all the original blue and considerable color case hardening on the frame and lock plate. Excellent markings with the lock plate stamped “GWYN & CAMPBELL/PATENT 1862/HAMILTON, OHIO” and frame stamped “UNION/RIFLE”. Left side of frame stamped “RICHMOND, VA./C.S.A./JUNE 18,1863” which is pre period of production and is most likely a date commemorating an event of significance to an owner. Stamp appears quite old and probably dates to the late 19th Century. Excellent stock with all the original finish and a mint Government Inspector’s cartouche (“WHR”). Perfect working order and mint bore.
