Here is a unique custom rifle built by A & M Rifle Co (Bill Atkinson and Paul Marquardt) of Prescott Arizona, chambered in .257 Roberts. The action is from a pre-war (1944) Winchester Model 70. The barrel is 24" with perfect bore. The floor-plate is engraved with the name of the original owner. The rifle is mounted with a high quality German Nickel Supra 6x scope with medium cross-hairs. The stock is lightly figured walnut with beautifully executed fleur-de-lis checkering and a checkered steel butt-plate. The length of pull is 13 1/2". The weight with the scope is 9 lbs 5 oz.
Bill Atkinson was a well respected barrel maker for many years, and he had a longtime personal and professional association with Bill Ruger. Atkinson eventually sold his business, and went to work for Ruger, where he headed the company's in-house barrel facility. I have not fired this rifle, but Atkinson's cut-rifled barrels are reputed to be extremely accurate.
