HOPKINS & ALLEN “Enders Royal Scout” Rolling Block .22 RF RIFLE Single Shot Early 1900s Rare Single Shot Rifle made for Shapleigh Hardware
Description: HOPKINS & ALLEN “Enders Royal Scout” Rolling Block .22 RF RIFLE Single Shot Early 1900s Rare Single Shot Rifle made for Shapleigh Hardware Here we present a Hopkins & Allen “Enders Royal Scout” Rolling Block Single Shot Rifle in .22 Rimfire made circa the early 20th Century in Norwich, Connecticut. This rifle is a variant of the classic Model 722 from Hopkins & Allen. Chambered for the mainstream .22 Rimfire cartridges, it was the plinker and the game-getter of choice for many youth. Being a single shot, it naturally instills the “make your one shot count” mentality from a young age. Shapleigh Hardware Company was headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. The prominent wholesale hardware distributor was established in 1843 led by entrepreneur extraordinaire, Augustus Shapleigh. Over time, it grew to become a significant player in the American hardware industry. It’s no wonder that William Enders, a notable figure in the firearms trade, caught wind of the major St. Louis retailer. Enders initially served as Sales Manager for E.C. Simmons Hardware before advancing to the role of Vice President. He was affiliated with several trade names, including Enders Royal. Hopkins & Allen and Shapleigh Hardware were a match made in heaven! The Enders trade names were part of Shapleigh’s strategy to promote affordable, dependable firearms through its extensive distribution network. This specimen features a 25-5/8 inch barrel equipped with a stationary front sight and adjustable rear sight. The left receiver is stamped “Enders Royal Scout” with a rolled image of an Indian Chief, and “22 LONG RIFLE” on the left side of the barrel. Even today, this is a great rifle for a youngster to learn on! The overall condition is nearing fine. Much original finish is preserved and shares space with brown patinas. Excellent action. The bore has a lightly frosted appearance and reflective nature, with serviceable rifling. A thin ring is present in the bore about 9 inches in from the muzzle. Very good stock and forend containing average handling wear. Markings are legible. Here’s one to add to the family collection! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 25-5/8 inches. Caliber: .22 Rimfire Short, Long or Long Rifle Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee.
