The thick-side-wall receiver was developed by JP Sauer in 1943 as a base for the long-side-rail (LSR) sniper system, which improved on the existing short-side-rail sniper platform used previously. XK98k bcd 4 Long-Side Rail Sniper
The thick-side-wall receiver was developed by JP Sauer in 1943 as a base for the long-side-rail (LSR) sniper system, which improved on the existing short-side-rail sniper platform used previously. The receiver's left side wall was designed with a large diameter, allowing a milled flat to accommodate the scope-mounting base. A set of three retaining screws and two locking pins attach the scope base to the receiver wall. Gustloff Werke was the primary contractor for the LSR system, with smaller numbers produced by Sauer. These late JP Sauer-assembled, LSR-equuipped rifles used Astrawerke-supplied receivers, roll-marked "bcd 4".
