Herter's Model J9, Mauser Action-Thumbhole Stock in 6mm Remington. This great looking 60s-70s era custom rifle, features a 24" sporter barrel, a commercial Mauser action and a custom walnut thumbhole stock. Includes a time period Redfield 3x9 power widefield scope with crosswire reticle in Redfield bases and rings. The Herter's marked barrel is reported to be a Douglas barrel, and the action is an Yugoslavian commercial Mauser action with sporterised features, such as a hinged floorplate with the release lever on the inside of the trigger-guard, and a modern safery and a checkered flat on the bottom of the bolt knob. The barreled action is mounted in a custom, streamlined, sporter, thumbhole walnut stock, that features an elongated raised cheek-piece and a forearm that has a tapered octagon look. The octagon looking forearm has a five flats, the bottom of the forearm is flat and each side of the foream has two flat angles (making a five sided partial octagon, not including the barrel/barrel channel at the top). The edges of the flats are slightly round where they meet. The forearm also tapers in conjuction with the barrel taper. The five flats on the foream make for a unique, comfortable and stable fit on the shooting rests/sandbags, and of course in the shooter's hand.
