Here is a fantastic .30-06 98 Mauser sporter by Joseph Smithson.  Smithson is among the best contemporary gunmakers, and this is an excellent example of his early work.  The 22" barrel has an excellent bore, and features a banded front sight and express rear sights with one standing and one folding leaf.  Talley bases are installed. The bluing is excellent with only minor edge wear.  The action is smooth, and there is a three-position safety.  The floor-plate is hinged, with the release inside the trigger-guard.  The stock is exhibition-grade figured walnut with a beaded cheekpiece and a capped pistol-grip. The wood has a variety of scratches from having spent time in the field. The fore-end has an ebony tip. The length of pull is 13 1/2" over a pad.   This rifle was built in 1986, and comes with correspondence between the consignor and Smithson documenting and describing its history.  A fabulous American hunting rifle from a great maker.
