Walnut stock has a plain straight grip with squared butt. Tip down breechloading percussion rifle with two leaf folding rear notch sight and blade front sight. Item features a saddle bar and ring to left side of frame. Markings include EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY 27, 1851./DEC 6, 1859. to left side of frame, and MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS on right side of frame. Barrel is marked with an N on left side of Nock's Form. Left side of stock wrist is marked with two inspector cartouches, a horizontal boxed GWS George W. Sherman mark and a vertical boxed JM James Mills mark.
Condition:
Very Good+. Bore is bright, with a line of residue and light pitting to top of bore, possibly cleaned at some point. Barrel retains original bluing under scattered untouched patina. Some oxidation.
