Description:
The Eddystone 1917 "Sporterized" rifle with a 22-inch barrel represents a classic era of American gunsmithing. Following the World Wars, thousands of surplus military M1917 Enfield rifles were bought by gunsmiths and hobbyists who transformed the heavy, 9-pound military weapons into nimble, high-powered civilian hunting rifles. Chopping the original barrel from 26 inches down to 22 inches was the golden standard for creating a balanced, fast-handling "deer rifle" that could easily maneuver through thick brush. Because these were modified individually by different gunsmiths, their final features vary, but they all share a baseline of distinct mechanical and structural characteristics. None
