REMINGTON ~ 788 CARBINE ~ .308 WINCHESTER
Description: The Model 788 was produced as a "budget" rifle from 1967-83. This one is the carbine version which was introduced late in the production and, consequently, is a bit rarer. To keep costs down it was made with birch or elm stocks later in the production run. While it was a woods runner's budget rifle, it shot like crazy, equal to or better than its bigger (and more expensive) cousin, the Model 700. In part this was due to a lock time advertised at 2.5 milliseconds, and also due to the very stiff receiver. Remington didn't scrimp on metal. The rifle is different from most in that in had a nine-lug rear lock, allowing for a 60-degree bolt rotation from lock to open. These rifles were generally purchased as "tools" for people to hunt. This one is in great condition how "used" most of these rifles got to be. .308 Winchester SOLD Chambers: 3 rounds Metal Condition: "Good. The blue seems to be a bit faded, trending to a patina, and there are a large number of shallow pits on the barrel. Wood Condition: "Good. There are a number of handling marks including a long scratch on the butt stock, left side. Bore Condition: Shiny and bright with good rifling. Barrels: 18-3/4 inches Triggers: Factory trigger. Stock Dimensions: LOP: 13-1/2 inches. Butt Pad: Black plate. Weight: 8 lb - 4 oz Sights: "High post front sight, drilled and tapped for iron rear sight or scope. Rear sight holes are properly plugged. Outfitted with a TASCO fixed 4X32 scope. Item Location: Rogers |
