The Remington Model 37 Rangemaster stands among the finest American smallbore target rifles ever produced, and this example represents an especially desirable early-production specimen. Serial number 01655 places this rifle within the first years of Model 37 production, a period highly sought after by serious Remington collectors. Built specifically for competitive smallbore shooting, the Model 37 quickly earned a reputation for exceptional accuracy and mechanical refinement. This rifle remains configured as a true target gun and is accompanied by a remarkable collection of period accessories.

At the heart of this setup is a heavy 28-inch match barrel paired with a period J. Unertl external-adjustment target telescope. The Unertl system utilizes target blocks and a return spring arrangement that defined precision rimfire competition for decades. The combination of the heavy barrel, refined target trigger, rigid action, and premium optics created a rifle capable of winning matches at local, collegiate, and national levels. Even today, collectors and shooters regard the Model 37 as one of the most accurate rimfire target rifles ever manufactured.

What elevates this particular rifle beyond the ordinary is the extraordinary collection of original competition equipment accompanying it. The rifle currently wears a single-shot target adapter configuration favored by competitive shooters, yet the detachable magazine and conversion components remain with the rifle. Also included are a period palm rest assembly, original hook buttplate, sling components, and a Lyman 17A target front sight assembly. Together these pieces paint the picture of a serious competitor's rifle that was purpose-built for formal target shooting.

Collectors will immediately appreciate the early serial number, the desirable Unertl target scope, and the survival of specialized accessories that are frequently separated from these rifles over time. The included Daisy muzzle protector is another authentic period detail, preserving the critical target crown during transport and storage. The walnut stock displays attractive grain and classic target-rifle architecture while retaining the accessory rail system required for advanced shooting positions and competition equipment.

Finding a Model 37 is not difficult. Finding an early-production Model 37 accompanied by its Unertl target scope, hook buttplate, palm rest, single-shot conversion, detachable magazine system, sight components, and period accessories is an entirely different story. This is a serious collector-grade American target rifle package that captures the golden age of competitive smallbore shooting and would be equally at home in an advanced collection, a target rifle display, or on the firing line at a vintage competition event.
