Mauser Argentine 1909 .425 Express Custom Bolt Action
Description: A custom bolt action magazine rifle built on an original 1909 Argentine Mauser action and chambered in .425 Express. Not to be confused with Westley Richards & Co.'s proprietary .425 Magnum Express introduced around 1907, as the ".425 Express" is an entirely differnt cartridge. According to CARTRIDGE COLLECTOR : The .425 Express cartridge was designed in 1987 for African hunts by Cameron Hopkins and Whit Collins along with a prototype rifle for this patron John French. The initial model of the weapon for the .425 Express cartridge was a Ruger mod. 77 with bolt lock. The cartridge is based on a slightly shortened .300 Winchester Magnum case. Based on an original DWM Argentino 1909 Model 98 Mauser action with a 3-postion M70 type safety, custom one-piece bottom metal with a straddle floorplate and inside-the-bow release. Reportedly, the cartridge shoots a .423" caliber, 400gr bullet in the 2,400 fps range. Rifle has a 24" bbl., an island rear sight with 1 standing/2 folding leaf "Express" sights (50, 75, 150 yds) and lined in gold with a banded front sight with a single brass beaded sight blade and a missing removable sight hood. Walnut stock has a tradtional shaped cheekpiece, fine point pattern checkering, a two-screw "Jerry Fisher" solid steel grip cap, inletted rear swivel and barrel band front swivel, and an Ebony forend tip. 13 1/4" LOP over a Pachmayr "Decelerator". Rifle weighs 9 lbs. even and remains in excellent overall condition. SOLD LOP: 13 1/4 Weight: 9 lbs. Sights: 1 standing / 2 folding leaf "Express" sights (50, 75, 150 yds) Item Location: U.S.A. |
