Springfield M1 Garand rifle 30:06
Description: This is a 1942 Springfield M1 Garand with Type 1 Model 3, National Match Upgrades – Serial # 535418. It was converted to a Presentation Model with a rare Burrill (tiger stripe) Maple Wood Stock. Almost all National Match Upgrades to Type1, model 3 standards were made in 1959. This was the first use of 062 Markings on the front site. Orginally Manufactured in Feburary 1942 - Details below. Serial Number searches storngly indicate that Serial number:535418 was orginally manufactured in February 1942. Most collectors of M1 Rifles like to see WW2 Manufacuring Dates; And this is an early WW2 date(://nps.gov/spar/learn/historyculture/u-s-m1-garand-rifle-production.htm). Most Armory National Match Type one upgrades were made in 1959, and then re-issued to Marine Corps Rifle Teams. The National Match, Type 1 model 3 Rifles were the first to use of 062 Markings. At some point this rilfe was chosen to be converted into a Presentation Grade M1 Garand rifle, with the very rare Burrill (Tiger Striped) Maple Wood Stock and refinished metal . Careful inspection shows very few marks of any kind on this stock and none on the metal. Interested parties have the option of having this Rifle inspected by a well qualified gunsmight and / or wood type expert located in the Tampa Bay area, at the potienial buyer’s expense. Presentation Models were often given to individuals for significant achievements or as special gifts. Typically these rifles are known for their exceptional craftsmanship, including the standared high-grade walnut wood,(Agiain not to be repititive, this rifle has upgraded Maplewood, but this is very rare) and usually refinished metal. This rifle the seems to the very similar to the photo found during an AI enhanced Google search. This is the #15 photo at the end of this listing. Detials of National Match markings shown on all US Rifle M1 Garand National Match Type 1, Model 3's Type 1: First use of NM marked parts in SA assembly. Model First use of 062 stamping. Details: Production year: 1959 -- New 2877 --- Rebuilt 2652 --- Total: 5529 Front site marked: NM062 Aperture marked: NM .595. (NM 520 optional) Rear site at base marked: NM Windage Knob marked: NM All of these markings are clearly visiable on the rifle. This rifle was purchased in 1970 from a member of the Third Army Rifle Team. I was a member but never good enough to compete. But I did have plenty of free range time and lots of national match 7.62 ammo for practice. So, my fairly short time on the team was enjoyable. I purchased this rifle from a member of the team and he told me that he got this rifle from an "older" friend of his in 1968. He represented it as a “Presentation Model”, but with no documentation. I didn’t care because I never intended intended to sell it. Fast forward to 2025. My kids don’t appreciate this rifle and they will sell it as soon as I'm gone. So, I decided to add it to my Gun’s International Listing of military rifles. So that there would be a chance that someone who really would appreciate it would end up with it. Why $10,000? Because I paid $1,000 for it in June 1971, And $1,000 in 1971 is the same as ~$8,000 today. Given that there is a heck of a lot fewer M1’s like this available today, If any? 10K seems kind of reasonable to me?. I fired 8 rounds from this rifle just one time with an experienced gunsmith, just to confirm safety. (I had another one Garand for shooting). And it has been displayed in air conditioning ever since. As far as I know it is as issued in 1959 then upgraded to a Presention modelt It has been inspected and extreamly lightly cleaned, per disclaimer below. Important: It was never completely broken down. No need to and I didn’t want to. Please let me know if I can add to any of the above. Notes Listing of of M1 rifles manufactured by Springfield in 1942 show that serial # 535418 falls in the February period. • February: #498,216 • March: #542,494 April: #588,879 • ://nps.gov/spar/learn/historyculture/u-s-m1-garand-rifle-production.htm). Please let me know if you think any of the above needs correcting. If so, hopefully with documentation. I really want this listing to be 100% correct. Applies to all listings: In 2002, the entire collection was professionally removed from wood and inspected for condition, then cleaned, lubricated and put back in the wood by a very experienced and professional Gunsmith. All received a clean bill of health from a condition stand point, most much better than appropriate for the age. They have only been lightly cleaned and oiled by me, since purchased. Since I acquired them, the entire collection has never out of a temperature-humidity, controlled environment. Most post 1920 guns have been fired by a qualified gunsmith or range master. For reliability, functionality and safety confirmation. I have fired a few of the newer rifles that are listed. Limited to a total of <200 rounds, max. Most rifles have some oil build-up in the tight places. This is due to never over cleaning them to maintain as much originality as possible. Firearms that are equipped for them have as-issued correct Bayonet and Scabbards, in very good condition. Most have (sure looks like) as issued: Slings, clips and / or removable magazines. All have the expected stampings and / or cartouches. As far as I know, there are no reproduction replacement parts in this collection! Some Government Arsenal Reconditions are included with clear markings of this reconditioning, and these are identified in the listing. All firearms are offered as collector’s items only. Seller does not accept responsibility as to the shooting safety or reliability of any firearm. A thorough inspection should be conducted by an experienced, reliable gunsmith / rangemaster, before even considering firing any gun. All descriptions related to a Firearms are based on best knowledge. No Firearm is intentionally misrepresented and are described as accurately and to the best of my ability, as possible. Please make your own determinations. A 3rd party, totally independent gunsmith. Is available for consultation / condition confirmation, at the buyer’s expense. If you have or can find a qualified contact in the Tampa Bay Florida area, I’ll take it to them for inspection and consulation with you. I will not attend this call. I am available to take phone inquiries. Between 9AM & 6 PM. Most days. Based on my knowledge, all firearms are mechanically sound and complete. But to be really clear, I am NOT warranting them as safe to fire. This must be determined by a qualified range master or gunsmith. The Buyer must have a valid Driver’s License. And complete the Florida Individual Person: Firearm & Ammunition Transfer Disclosure Document, for every sale. Thank you for your understanding and agreement: M1 Garand Rifle Presentation Grade Model – Background, Descriptions and Some Recipients. Italic’s: Are the my Comments A "Presentation Model" M1 Garand is a standard M1 rifle that has been specially prepared, often with enhanced wood and metal finishes, for a ceremonial presentation to a notable individual. The M1 looks more like the Traditional Presentation Version that has the “Tiger Stiped Stock” with the pretty rare US Armory NM Model Three Upgrades. However, there a few notable altered (crome, engravings, etc) versions that are also considered "Presentation Models". Both variants, are typically unique pieces, commissioned for a special occasion and / or person. Key information about these rifles as supported by Google.
