Springfield Model 1870 Two Band Musket In 50-70 Government With Accessories
Description:
This musket's serial number is 2696. This is a conversion of a Civil War musket. The barrel was changed from a 58 cal. to a 50 ca. by installing a rifled 50 cal. liner. It is so well done that it is almost impossible to tell. The old breech was then cut off and the new trap door breech was then screwed into the relined barrel. The hammer was then faced off to a flat surface. The ramrod was replaced by a wiping rod. The original sights were retained. with that done the gun is now the new model 1870 musket chambered for the 50-70 centeral fire government cartridge. This musket is still in the Civil War burndished bright steel barrel finish. There is no patina or fading on the barrel. The bands and muzzle cap are also in the "Bright" The civil war lock is dated 1865. The bore is in very fine condition with no pitting and sharp lands. The hammer has the original two stops and functions perfectly. The breech locks up tight and works smoothly. The stock is in very fine condition. There is no damage or cracks with this stock. This is a very fine quality condition musket! It is rare to find one in this fine of condition! These muskets saw hard service, this one has survived the years in it's original as issued condition. I have shot this gun several times. This is a very accurate shooting firearm. Included with this musket is an original Civil War bayonet, R.C.B.S. loading dies, ammunition, bullets and some original 1870 Bennet primed cartridges.
