Winchester Model 1895 Flatside In 38-72 Winchester With Octagonal Barrel
Description:
This Winchester was produced in 1896 And Shipped on Febuary 11th 1897 with 10 other rifles with the same specifications to the same order. This rifle's serial number is 2310. It is chambered for the 38-72 Winchester. It is also fitted with the rare octagon barrel. The top barrel flat is stamped [From W.F. Sheard Tacoma Wash.] Sheard was a famous sight maker as well as a Winchester dealer. The rear sight is the standard sight with elevator. The front sight is the uncommon globe sight with adjustable windage base and two position blade sight. This is a fairly rare sight to find on Winchesters. This sight appears to have always been on this rifle. The wear pattern of the sight is consistent with the rest of this barrel. The bore is bright and sharp. The original bluing on the receiver is bright with about 65% of the finish remaining. The barrel bluing would rate a 75% overall with high point loss. The wood retains it's original finish. There is no cracks or damage to the stock or forend. This Winchester shows honest wear and use but no abuse. The factory letter confirms the shipping information. You can read between the lines that this Winchester was shipped To W.F. Sheard In Tacoma Washington. due to the stamp on the barrel flat. Also included is a original Winchester box of correct first issue 38-72 ammunition. This box is in very fine condition with all the original shells intact. This is a fairly rare box to find today! The other box is a Winchester orange box with the original brass that has been reloaded. This is a real historical Winchester from a famous dealer having a factory letter and original boxed ammunition. This is the kind of Winchester that collectors dream of finding!
