This Holland & Holland “The Northwood” 12 Gauge side-by-side is a true lightweight English game gun from H&H’s post-war era. Introduced in the late 1950s/early 1960s as a more accessible yet still London-finished alternative to the flagship Royal sidelock, the Northwood was built on a scalloped boxlock action (often a high-quality Webley & Scott or Birmingham trade action) that was then engraved, regulated, proofed, and finished in Holland & Holland’s London workshops.

The rib engraving “The Northwood, 33 Bruton Street, London” dates this specific gun to the mid-1980s through mid-1990s, after H&H moved into their iconic Bruton Street flagship showroom. At just 5 lbs 4 oz with a straight-grip stock and double triggers, it was purpose-built for walked-up shooting — fast, instinctive, and perfectly balanced for grouse, woodcock, quail, or driven birds. 28" barrels with Improved Modified and Modified chokes give excellent field patterning. The action carries classic simple scroll and border engraving, while the checkered walnut straight grip stock features an engraved “SPB” initial plate in the toe line.

Very good condition throughout: nice metal finishes and engraving, bright bores, and tight lockup with light marring to the wood from light use. Mechanically flawless and ready for the field or collection.
