Joseph Manton percussion SxS shotgun. In modern terms this muzzle loading shotgun is a 19 gauge. Joseph Manton is credited with being the innovator/father of modern sporting shotguns. Notable makers James Purdey, Thomas Boss, Charles Lancaster and others all worked for Manton and learned from Joseph Manton’s brilliant mind. This beautiful Damascus 31 1/4“ barreled percussion shotgun was built circa 1825. This date is not exact but it come from Manton’s in England. Except for a spot on the left barrel where the finish is gone this Manton remains in antique very fine original condition. The furniture may have had a coat of varnish added at some point but the wood to metal fit is excellent. Weight is 6 lbs. 11 oz. The LOP is 14 1/4", 2 3/16" DAC and 3" DAH with 1/4" cast for a right hand shooter.
